Six Years On, Why GDPR is Still Key to Data Management
1st May 2024 In News By ADNS IT Expert

May 2018 saw one of the biggest updates surrounding the laws of data collection and processing in recent history.

Superseding the UK Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA 1998), the new General Data Protection Regulation - or GDPR for short - set out seven principles which data controllers are responsible for complying with.

Data must be handled within the principles of:

  • Lawfulness, fairness and transparency
  •  Purpose limitation
  • Data minimisation
  • Accuracy
  • Storage limitation
  • Integrity and confidentiality (security)
  • Accountability

Having a full understanding of the rules is one thing, but ADNS Group can ensure your risk is reduced further. Integrating enhanced security through a client focused approach, we are able to tailor a bespoke solution to ensure your business and your people stay fully compliant.

GDPR breaches can be costly. In 2019, British Airways were hit with a £20m fine for what the Information commissioner's office deemed as “...processing a significant amount of personal data without adequate security measures…”

It’s not just well known international companies that have fallen foul of the regulations either. As well as the damage to your reputation that comes with a breach, the maximum fine for a GDPR violation is €20m or 4% of the organisation’s global annual turnover. A violation has the potential to be disastrous no matter the size of the business - perhaps even more so to SMEs.

Clearly then a robust data handling and management system is the key to staying compliant, along with making sure that all staff who come into contact with personal data and information are informed and up to date with their responsibilities in line with GDPR.

ADNS Group offers comprehensive solutions to GDPR, ensuring your business stays compliant and productive and your clients and customers data is safe and secure - all while reducing your risk of a data breach.

Schools in particular need to make sure they are compliant, thanks in part to the sensitivity of the data they hold.
